DOG MEET DOG WORLD: Little dogs make great fashion accessories -- just ask Paris Hilton. And soon, north Burnaby will have its very own boutique and doggie daycare exclusively for pups under 25 pounds. Small Paws Doggie Daycare, which opens Feb. 11, has 1,600 square feet for the little darlings to play, socialize and explore, and it also offers a drop-in doggie playground on Saturdays, a pup shuttle and spa bath service. And, of course, there are designer duds for dogs, from labels like Hip Doggie and MySassyDog, as well as gourmet treats and pet accessories. Small Paws is at 491 Sperling Ave. (at Hastings) in Burnaby. Call 604-897-8277 or visit www.smallpaws.ca for more info.

TRENDY SPENDING: Canadian designed and made fashions are the focus at Spend on Trend, a biannual wholesale-retail showcase that runs from Feb. 8 to 10 at Heritage Hall.

More than 25 designers from Montreal to Victoria are expected to be on hand to showcase their clothing, accessories and home decor creations for store owners, the media and the public. Look for labels like Adhesif, Viola Blanca, Cherry Blossom, Dahlia Drive and Filou Designs. Get there early if you can -- Urban Fare is giving out $75 gift bags each day to the first 25 shoppers. For event hours and more info, visit www.spendontrend.com or e-mail info@spendontrend.com

FASHION WITH A HEART: See what the next generation of fashion leaders are up to as graduates from the John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts usher their designs down the runway on Feb. 12 at Heritage Hall, 3102 Main St., starting at 8 p.m.
The evening's mistress of ceremonies is Carlie Wong, one of the designers on last season's
Project Runway Canada. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, and all net proceeds will be donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and Yukon. Phone 604-688-0328 or 604-725-2617 for tickets.
